"The final piece in the programme was film music from The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl by Klaus Badelt. This was a tremendous fun piece to end the concert and Scott, drove the orchestra hard with his splendidly fiery and incisive conducting... the whole orchestra grabbed hold of the music and just ran with it and the strings did capture something of the Hollywood gloss in delivering the main melodies of this piece." Alan Cooper, March 2012.
"The team of Musical Director Scott Matheson and Stage Director Brian Gunnee have produced another sure fire winner for the Society... Matheson’s conducting, charged as it was with admirable expressive energy, drew an ever more spirited response from an excellent orchestra as the evening proceeded, especially in the second act which boasts some of the most memorable music..." Alan Cooper, February 2012, Review of "Iolanthe" 15/2/12.
"In his piece, A Heroic Journey, dedicated to his parents, Scott Matheson mentions Craig Armstrong as an influence. I thought his piece conducted by Kevin Philip was particularly well composed. There were beautifully scored solos. . . and the jaunty melody that dominated the latter part of the work conjured up for me an image of a couple trotting along in a pony and trap." Alan Cooper, October 2011.

"Scott Matheson took over as conductor in Dvořák’s Slavonic Dance in e minor, Op.46 No.2. He seemed to bring the whole orchestra alive as he almost danced his way through the piece managing perfectly the sudden changes of pace in the piece. I felt he picked up the orchestra and made them dance joyfully along with him." Alan Cooper, March 2011.
"Scott Matheson gave us another quartet in traditional classical style. It opened Lento with quite beautiful harmonies that when the music revved up to Vivace were exploited in a quite different way to propel the music forward." Alan Cooper, October 2008.
