Scott Matheson graduated from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland in July 2010 with an Upper Second Class (2:1) Music with Honours degree specialising in Performance and Composition. He graduated from the same institution in November 2011, with a Master of Music degree, specialising in Composition.
Scott plays Double Bass and has been taught by Sarah Neil, Paul Speirs (of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra) and David Inglis (Principal Bass of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra). Scott continues to play regularly for many ensembles including Aberdeen Sinfonietta and Grampian Sinfonia and has previously played with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland (NYOS), NYOS Futures, Aberdeenshire Youth Orchestra and Edinburgh Youth Orchestra. As well as performing, Scott is also a keen composer. He studied Composition as part of his Masters degree, with Royal Wedding composer, Professor Paul Mealor. His orchestral debut, "A Heroic Journey", was premiered by the student run orchestra, Aberdeen Student Sinfonia as part of the SOUND Festival 2011 in Aberdeen. Scott mainly specialises in composing for Strings but also has an interest in vocal music.
More recently, Scott was the Musical Director for the University of Aberdeen Gilbert & Sullivan Society's Production of "Iolanthe" which was met with critical acclaim and WAS Musical Director again for the company's 2013 production "The Sorcerer". Scott has also conducted the student run orchestra, Aberdeen Student Sinfonia, and conducted them in their concert in March 2012 as part of the University of Aberdeen Concert Series. He was part of the orchestra since it began in 2009 until his final conducting concert in March 2012.
Scott is also an Instrumental Instructor for Aberdeenshire Council, teaching Cello and Double Bass in Primary and Secondary schools across Ellon, Inverurie, Kemnay and Peterhead. Scott also teaches the Initial Strings music group at Stonehaven Music Centre, where he composed "A Nice Little Stroll" for the group aged between 8 and 10, which was premiered in their Christmas concert in December 2011. Scott is also the Orchestral Manager for the Grampian Youth Orchestra, an orchestra aimed at players aged 12-22 in the Grampian area that comes together for a music course in June ending with a concert in the Music Hall.
